Alkagesta took part in Miller’s DayWithMiller programme and annual cocktail event in Paris on 8 October, joining a gathering focused on commodity trade finance and risk management. According to Alkagesta Newsroom, attendance exceeded 400 people, with representatives drawn from trading companies, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers.
The daytime programme consisted of workshops arranged by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team. Industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and the management of commodity-related exposures. The sessions examined financial and insurance arrangements used in commodity trading, ranging from credit and surety structures to marine cargo insurance and political risk cover, the company’s account said.
Alkagesta Newsroom described the workshops as an opportunity to discuss the systems and instruments supporting responsible commodity trading. Participants also considered how leading institutions manage risk and compliance in what the company characterised as an increasingly complex operating environment. The programme brought those topics together within a forum attended by both commodity market participants and providers of finance and risk protection.
An evening cocktail reception followed the workshops, allowing participants to continue discussions and develop contacts across the commodity sector’s finance and risk community. Alkagesta presented its attendance as part of its efforts to strengthen its risk management arrangements, build closer links with insurance and reinsurance partners, and demonstrate the compliance and governance standards associated with its international trading business.
The company said its activities cover petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel in approximately 48 countries. That trading footprint is supported by a network of trade finance, risk and insurance counterparties, according to Alkagesta Newsroom. The company described those relationships as central to the responsible conduct of its trading activities, placing the Paris gathering within its wider approach to maintaining that network.
