Alkagesta has agreed to acquire Energy Petrol, an independent marine fuel distributor in Türkiye, in a transaction that will give the trader its first owned vessels, according to Alkagesta Newsroom. The Turkish Competition Authority has approved the deal, which includes eight bunkering vessels and a long-term lease covering 28,000 cubic metres of tank capacity at the Altıntel terminal in Gebze.
The storage lease will take total oil products storage under Alkagesta to about 728,000 cubic metres, the company’s newsroom said in a summary of international press coverage of the agreement. Energy Petrol, established in 1997, is described by the source as the third-largest physical supplier in the port of Istanbul. It will retain its brand and customer base and continue operating independently following the acquisition.
The transaction marks a change in how Alkagesta participates in the marine fuel market. Its newsroom said media reports had presented the purchase as a move beyond trading fuel into supplying it directly to end users. The vessels also represent a change in its approach to shipping: until this transaction, Alkagesta had chartered tonnage rather than owned it. The acquisition combines that entry into ownership with leased storage capacity and an established local supply business.
Alkagesta traded 4.9 million tonnes in the first half of 2026, an increase of 53% from a year earlier, according to figures cited in the newsroom account. The same summary said several outlets reported that Alkagesta had supplied Energy Petrol on a wholesale basis for several years. It also said the company secured the acquisition through a competitive sale process involving other trading houses and industry majors.
The newsroom cited Asad Huseynov, Alkagesta’s managing director of investments and asset management, as linking the purchase to a broader change in commodity markets towards greater ownership of assets and business models built for long-term sustainability. Its account drew on coverage by outlets including Bloomberg, TradeWinds and Ship & Bunker.
